Thursday 5th August Brunch in Barcaldine, a lovely little town. Overnighted in a gravel pit… just short of Emerald, not too much road traffic so a comfortable night.      Friday 6th August Travelled through Emerald, Springsure, Moura and Theodore today.  Ended up at Cracow for overnight – a virtual ghost town but it does have a substantial Gold Mine near by.  The only open business is the Cracow Hotel, a great place.              Saturday 7th August Back on the road with the plan being a pub meal for our final night together.  Kate and Paul heading home on Sunday and we plan to be home on Monday. During our drive to the Theebine Hotel, through some back roads, we came across this lovely old bridge.   The wonderful  looking old pub for our end of trip meal, pool and cards.           Thanks to Kate and Paul for spending a great part of this trip with us.  Especially as all plans went out the window and we effectively did a lap of Australia

Sunday 1st August Up early in the morning for another dip in Bitter springs.  This time it definitely felt warm as the outside temperature was only around 20 degrees.  Lovely to start the day.       Then on to Larrimah Hotel, its in the pub book, for a quick drink before heading to Daly Waters pub for lunch.           Overnight in a “Gravel Pit”, although it was much better than it sounds.  Well off the road so nice and quiet.     Monday 2nd August Another long travel day today.  But we did manage to finally get back into Queensland… Yeah!     And after crossing the border we settled in overnight at the Camooweal Billabong.       Tuesday 3rd August Initial thoughts today was to stay here, as the temperature forecast was to be a high of 26 degrees (down from yesterdays 35 degrees) but the wind had picked up so would have been uncomfortable anyway.  So we’ve decided to pack up and continue on.  Probably plan to do only about

Wed 28th – Sat 31st July. Eighty Mile Beach-Kununurra-Katherine-Bitter Springs

Wednesday 28th July Awoke at Eighty Mile Beach to a foggy morning, couldn’t even see the ocean from the beach.   Departed and met up with Kate and Paul at the nearest Roadhouse.  Their car now has a working Air conditioner.  A travel day today (around 600km’s).  Nothing much to see other than the odd boab tree!   Overnight at Ellendale Lake - a free farm stay location near to the road, this was a fantastic little spot with a very picturesque lake.  We arrived a little late so missed out on a position next to the lake.          Thursday 29th July   Up in the morning for a cuppa by the lake, and then a very friendly cow for breakfast.                            Another long travel day today but some nice scenery.   Then set up camp at a roadside rest area (Bow River).       Friday 30th July Finally leaving Western Australia after 2 months and 2 days…   No where near where we planned to be… actually 3500km’s

Sun 25th – Tue 27th July. Eighty Mile Beach

Sunday 25th July Sunrise departure form our roadside stop near Port Hedland, as we want to ensure a site at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park (First in basis).    Through Port Hedland where Kate and Paul will spend the next couple of days to get their Air conditioner repaired… it is needed up here!       Then into the Caravan Park at Eighty Mile Beach, where we were lucky to score a powered site – just makes it easier and we can put on the caravan air conditioner.                                 Monday 26th July A day to wander along the beach.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for us), Kate and Paul’s car will not be ready today so we have to spend tomorrow here as well.  So after our walk we spent some time on the van = like checking over the brakes, fixing the toilet door, rinsing  off some of the red dirt as well as the normal washing and cleaning up of the van… ready for the thrust home.     At the end of th
