Thursday 27th May With 640km’s to go to Norsemen (COVID testing location) we got away early with the idea of getting a large portion of this done today.  So a big travel day. Just over an hour into our trip we hear on the news that WA, as at 10am, have closed their borders to anyone who has been in Victoria in the last 10 days.  This would have been us, had we arrived at the border today we would have been told to turn around.  Soooo lucky to arrive yesterday!  We still have the matter of reaching a COVID test site within 48 hours though.   Starting to see some more wildlife again, Tracey managed to snap an Eagle on the side of the road.   Then we finally reach  “Australia’s Longest Straight Road”… after a lot of practice on the preceding 1000 plus km’s.  And probably not surprisingly it was a little boring.       We set up camp again at a nice rest area, Mt Pleasant.  Another great spot to isolate.     Friday 28th May Drove into Norsemen, heade

Wed 26th. Nullarbor–WA Border–Jilah Rockhole Rest area

Wednesday 26th May We are 180km’s from the WA border but have the Great Australian Bight coastline to check out on the way.  Although we are fast tracking to the border due the unfolding COVID action in Melbourne we would still like to spend some time checking out the Bunda Cliffs and selecting some possible camping spots for our return.  We still should be at the border by lunchtime. And the cliffs are spectacular…                 At the border…  some of us had received an email from WA Police advising our previous approval had been rejected and need to re-apply.  Presumably to re-validate all the information based on us coming from Victoria.  Once done and all re-approved we headed for the quarantine station to be met by the WA police and quarantine inspectors. The Police were very good, just making sure we knew that part of our approval to enter was to obtain a COVID test within 48 hours and isolate until a negative result.  Although we were surpr

Mon 24th – Tue 25th May. Streaky Bay–Nullarbor Roadhouse

Monday 24th May Fantastic start for the day.   Spending the day touring around Streaky Bay.  Some of the scenic tourist spots. The stark cold beaches…       The Blow hole was great, the waves crash into the rocks below and spurt through holes in the top.                     Coastal views.   Then down to visit the Sealion colony, surely a tourist myth… but no, they are simply sprawled out all over.           Then we drove back up the coast but the rain and wind set in.  It was 50km winds overnight and into the morning.  It is great to be in a caravan and not the roof top tent     Tuesday 25th May Some Covid issues developing in Melbourne, as Paul and Kate were there recently and we have travelled through the edge of Victoria, we thought we better fast track it to WA… just in case they have itchy trigger fingers on closing the borders. Dropped into Smokey Bay and picked up some fresh oysters, actually straight off th

Thursday 20th May Left Mildura for a short drive (200kms) to the Overland Corner Hotel. Stopped in to the Woolshed Brewery near Renmark for lunch.     Then on to find a camping spot, again on the Murray River.  Plan was to set up and walk to the Overland Corner Hotel (in our Pub book) for dinner.  But I nice friendly local down at the rivers edge mentioned that the pub was closing early tonight,  So we went back to the pub and had a beer just before it closed at 4pm.  Go figure…. only night it was closing early and its tonight…   Anyway after a couple of drinks we head back down and find a nice spot on the river… admittedly through a few tight tracks to get there.       Friday 21st May Lovely morning to wake up to… On the road towards Port Augusta, plan is to find somewhere nice before then.  Plenty of scenery and many wind turbines…     Setting up in a lovely bush camp at Wilmington.     So much effort…       Saturday
