Wed 26th. Nullarbor–WA Border–Jilah Rockhole Rest area

Wednesday 26th May

We are 180km’s from the WA border but have the Great Australian Bight coastline to check out on the way.  Although we are fast tracking to the border due the unfolding COVID action in Melbourne we would still like to spend some time checking out the Bunda Cliffs and selecting some possible camping spots for our return.  We still should be at the border by lunchtime.

And the cliffs are spectacular…

At the border…  some of us had received an email from WA Police advising our previous approval had been rejected and need to re-apply.  Presumably to re-validate all the information based on us coming from Victoria.  Once done and all re-approved we headed for the quarantine station to be met by the WA police and quarantine inspectors.

The Police were very good, just making sure we knew that part of our approval to enter was to obtain a COVID test within 48 hours and isolate until a negative result.  Although we were surprised that the closest testing location was over 700 kms away – And the 48 hour timer is now ticking…   Oh, no issues with quarantine either, although we had a big fry up of veggie's last night to get rid of them all.

With the change of time zone (we gained some time), we decided to get some of the 700km’s done this afternoon.  Pulling up in a roadside rest area – Jilah Rockhole.  Managed to get a fair bit away from the road.  Picking a spot so we could watch the sunset and the Lunar eclipse happening tonight.
