Fri 7th - Sun 9th May. Quilpie-Charleville
Friday 7th May
After waking up to this…
And considering, what felt like, a long day yesterday and what we would need to endure reference distances and the significant (550km’s) amount of gravel road travel to achieve our original plan to check out Birdsville, we decided to change the pace a little and slow down and head in an alternate direction. Yet to be determined
Step one - spend another night on “The Lake” at Quilpie, to start to relax and enjoy.
Step Two – wander around the lake…
Step Three – a trip into Quilpie for brunch…
Step Four – decide on where to go, while dinner was cooking…
With the decision being to head east towards Charleville for a couple of days then start trekking down to Bourke slowly.
Saturday 8th May
Another great sunrise, looking out the caravan window!
And on to the “Evening Star” Farm stay Caravan Park just outside Charleville. A quick check over the town and a visit to the Cosmos centre – very interesting but the night time viewings were booked or too late. But the caravan park has something similar… we hope.
Set up camp and down to the community Campfire and free damper tasting (a nightly event).
Sunday 9th May
Relaxed slow morning, chores being done. Washing, fiddling with the squeaks, etc..
Into Charleville for Mother’s day Lunch at the local RSL.
Relaxing afternoon and… Communal firepit and damper again in the evening. Tracey and I also went to the night time star gazing experience. Very informative and to get a look through a significantly expensive telescope at some of the different Stars and celestial bodies was a fantastic experience.
