Tue 22nd – 24th February 2022. Yeppoon & Great Keppel Island

Tuesday 22nd February Departed the wonderful Notch Point, not sure where to go.  Based on the weather being warm and Tracey wanting somewhere we could swim, along with the need to fill/empty the van,  we took to Wikicamps to find a suitable destination for the evening.  Unfortunately nothing grabbed our attention other than returning to Yeppoon (fantastic swimming lagoon on the waterfront) and staying at the Beachside Caravan Park.  So decided to return to Yeppoon, quick call to the caravan park (lucky we did as we secured the last waterfront site) and the plan was set. Arrived into Yeppoon mid afternoon and after setting up and a few loads of washing we ventured again to the waterfront swimming lagoon. Dinner at one of the local restaurants.   Wednesday 23rd February Chores today… tank fill, groceries, tidying, relaxing.   Monitoring the situation in SE QLD, to map our return journey.  Looks like returning via the coast along the Bruce Highway may be problematic.

Thu 17th – 21st February 2022. Upper Stony–Notch Point

Thursday 17th – Monday 21st February At Yeppoon we had thought that was to be as far north as we would go on this short trip.  But I found/remembered a highly recommended free camp just a little further north, just south of Mackay.  So I convinced Tracey we should check it out but it would mean a 330 km travel day.  Slightly more than our current short travel day limits we are use to… a long way off the 600 km days we used to do with the roof top tent as standard. Anyway we agreed to head all the way to Notch Point after departing Byfield State Forest, hoping the weather improves. Back into Rockhampton for supplies, water and dump point, then northwards to Notch Point. We arrived at the gate to the Yarrawonga Reserve (ie. Notch Point) at around 3pm.  The track in is recommended as 4wd only, so we’ll see how we go with the van on.  Many Wikicamps reviews talk about no issues with large off-road vans so we’re not too concerned when the track gets a little tight. Now you can

Friday 11th – Monday 14th February (Yeppoon) Departed our Rest Area overnight stop… wondering if we wanted to stay another day as it was great over looking the river.  But we had booked ahead to the Beachside Caravan Park at Yeppoon as it was coming into the weekend and thought we had better lock something in. Arrived around lunchtime and set ourselves up, yes it is on the beach.  Lovely spot for a few days… with power just in case we need the airconditioner and to run a few loads of washing etc. Beach at Beachside Caravan Park – Youtube clip Relaxed for the few days, wandered around the sights, had planned to do a day trip to Great Keppel island and maybe a sunset cruise but weren’t sure how the wind (quite windy here at the moment) would affect them, we drove out to the marina and asked how comfortable these trips will be.  They advised that although they get a breeze most of the time this wind was significant and wouldn’t recommend going out on the water over the next fe
