Fri 11th – Wed 16th February 2022. Calliope River Rest–Yeppoon–Upper Stony Campground (Byfield State Forest)

Friday 11th – Monday 14th February (Yeppoon)

Departed our Rest Area overnight stop… wondering if we wanted to stay another day as it was great over looking the river.  But we had booked ahead to the Beachside Caravan Park at Yeppoon as it was coming into the weekend and thought we had better lock something in.

Arrived around lunchtime and set ourselves up, yes it is on the beach.  Lovely spot for a few days… with power just in case we need the airconditioner and to run a few loads of washing etc.

Relaxed for the few days, wandered around the sights, had planned to do a day trip to Great Keppel island and maybe a sunset cruise but weren’t sure how the wind (quite windy here at the moment) would affect them, we drove out to the marina and asked how comfortable these trips will be.  They advised that although they get a breeze most of the time this wind was significant and wouldn’t recommend going out on the water over the next few days.  Oh well, leaves us something to do next time we are in this area.

Fish and chips for dinner a couple of nights, found a great burger (huge surprise) at Emu Park and a very nice restaurant meal at Vue in Yeppoon.

And also found the local pool/lagoon, which was fabulous to get a swim without worrying about what might bite/eat you in the water Smile

While looking for our next stop, we found some good reports about a campground on a creek in Byfield State Forest but unsure whether we could get the van to fit, it says suitable for small caravans.  As it was only 30kms up the road we took a drive without the van to check it out.  Whilst a tight fit we were sure we could manoeuvre our van into a number of the sites, so went ahead and booked with the National Parks for a couple of nights.

Tuesday 15th – Wednesday 16th February (Byfield)

Departed Yeppoon after a sleep in (only 30kms to travel today) and arrived at Upper Stony Campground before lunch.

With some not so good but worked out anyway planning, we managed to get our 22’6 van into position on site 3.

Weather forecasts have possible showers over the next day or so.  Unfortunately for our stay at Upper Stony the forecast for showers was understated a fair bit.  But we still managed to have a swim in the creek and do small bushwalk when it wasn’t raining.  Note to self… don’t cook a roast (in our Weber) while it is raining.
