Mon 7th – Thu 10th February 2022. Home–Tin Can Bay–Burnett Heads–Calliope River Rest

Monday 7th February

Well another trip, this time a short 3-4 week one.  Leaving home (Brisbane) heading north and staying close to the coast as it’s February and probably a little too hot inland.  Would like to explore Carnarvon Gorge and NP but we will leave this to cooler months.

No plan as we head north….if you know me this is a huge step for me .

As we drive out of town we start to discuss where we might like to see and look up Wikicamps to help.  Ended up agreeing on Tin Can Bay.  Not finding any free/low cost camps that we thought we could stay in and not sure how busy caravan parks will be, we booked ahead from Gympie into a Tin Can Bay Caravan Park.

Sauntered into Tin Can Bay and set up.  Note: Caravan Parks not busy… so we will probably wing it from now on.

 

Went for a drive around the fishing town and its coastal views, then decided to take a drive to Rainbow Beach (maybe for some ice cream?).

  

 

Whilst we are here without the van,  thought we should check out Inskip Point camping just in case we might be able to fit the van in there sometime.  Great news, we should with a little planning and manoeuvring fit the van in, so we will log that as a future short trip away or on our way back.

Tuesday 8th February

Ok, up and away today, plan on finding some free roadside spot for the evening but got a recommendation from the caravan park about a waters edge caravan park at Elliot Heads (near Bundaberg).  So  not having any firm plans decided to check out the recommendation.

Arrived in Elliot Heads around lunchtime and checked out the recommendation, although Park on the waters edge, it wasn’t what we envisioned so we left there and had some lunch.  Contemplating what to do next and where to stay.

Tracey found a Hipcamp spot at Burnett Heads right on the water.. minimum two night stay,  so why not!  And it was a great spot!

Wednesday 9th February

Just relaxed for the second day, while taking a stroll we came across the electric scooters.  A quick review of their app and loaded it up and off we went.  Great way to experience the coastline.

 

 

Followed by a glorious colourful sunset.

 

 

 

Thursday 10th February

Have decided to get to the “Beachside Caravan Park” at Yeppoon and stay a couple of days.  Rather than a big travel day we will find a place to stay along the way.  Wikicamps has suggested Calliope River Rest area, so that is the plan. 

And a lovely free over night spot.
