Fri 5th & Sat 6th September Birdsville Races

Day 19 Fri

Kate cooked pancakes for breakfast on the first morning of the 2 racing carnival here at Birdsville.  Then a little less formal for the race day Marquee event, this how we scrub up in the dust.

We have tickets into the fully catered marquee at the track today.

With limousine style transport especially for us…   well the shuttle bus from the corner across the road from the caravan park anyway!

     

A little warm today, so happy to have some space and shade in the marquee tent.  We will need to get to the track tomorrow early to ensure we get some shade.

Need to concentrate as we review the form guide.

 

Of course, Tracey picked a winner … Give her a Rally!!!!!!

And our combined winnings for the day..

 

After a successful day at the track back to the campsite, changed into shorts and shirts and cruised the town.  Then queued up for ‘Fred Brophy’s Boxing tent’.  Have been told “got to see this”.  Anyone can challenge his boxers in the ring.The boys thought is was OK, but the girls did not think very highly of it.

     

Now.. it was a bit of a show and Fred Brophy is a showman but at least we went, not our cup of tea but we won’t need to go again…

Back to our tents to try to sleep… some good humour antics during the night going on in the campsite especially around 1:30am – Pub shuts at 1am.  No more than we expected camping so close to the action.

Give them a  RALLY!!!!

Day 20 Sat

Up and ready for race day 2 – Cup Day.

No Marquee today so we have to join the rest of the crowd and slum it in the dust.  At the track early with our chairs – good job too!! Secured a spot in the shade.  Kate and Paul started the day with winnings in most of the races.

     

More racing and Glenn managed to pick the Birdsville Cup winner.  Again we came out on top for the day. Give us a RALLY!!!!

     

 

In the evening some chinese and pizza from the trucked in food vendors then off to the band at the pub for a while.

Kate, Tracey and Glenn suffering from some virus/cold/plague! so early evening and listen to the night time activities from the comforts of our tents.
