Thu 21st August Tibooburra – The Dig Tree (Nappa Merrie)

Day 4

Left Tibooburra about 9:30 travelled through the Qld/NSW border gate again, suddenly the road improves!… For a while, anyway.

No hiccups, stopped at the Noccundra Hotel for lunch.  Nothing happens very fast out here. Chose not to top the fuel up at $1.97.

Continued, now on bitumen, towards Innamincka.  Stopping about 4pm at the “dig tree” famous for being part of Burke & Wills’ story.  Camped on the edge of a not so full Cooper Creek.  Off for some firewood… used my new purchase for the trip – a chainsaw.  Back at camp 15 minutes later with plenty of wood (this would normally have taken well over an hour and 2 very hot and sweaty gents, chopping or sawing bits of branches by hand).

First camp where we cooked our own dinner, great too.  Sat around the camp fire looking at the stars, not too cold about 11 degrees before bed, down to 6.2 by early morning.
