Sun 6th - Tue 8th August - Athens

Day 28 - Sunday.

Arrived into Athens mid morning, VERY HOT but was able to check directly into our accomodation to settle in, possibly had a snooze in the air conditioning!  Our room has a great view of the famous Acropolis.

Went out exploring but got hit by the 39 degree heat, not nice, so opted to get on the Hop-on/hop-off air conditioned (not so much) bus.  Learnt and saw all the major sights and Port areas, at least the view from the bus.  Local Greek meals for lunch and dinner with a cocktail or two from our Hotel's rooftop bar with a great view of the Acropolis before and after sunset.

Day 29 - Monday.

With the predicted top for the next few days to remain 39 degrees and 9am temperatures already well into the 30's, we decided that the only sane time to visit the Acropolis would be as soon as it opens at 8am.  This was last night's plan for today... but we didn't wake up in time.  So plan B,  catch the bus out to the Greek Riviera and stop off at the beaches or similar.  Once we got down there we found a great "remedial" lake, 12 Euro entry but well worth it.  Here the water was a perfect temperature and the lake was full of little fish which nibbled at your dead skin to supposedly make your skin feel smooth and supple?  Exactly like what we had at Dalhousie Springs a few year ago.  We virtually spent the whole day here without noticing the extreme temperature.... although ended up a little sunburnt, oh well!

Then back to te cool of our Hotel room to refresh before heading out tonight to watch the full moon and partial lunar eclipse rise above the Acropolis.

Day 30 - Tuesday.

This time we were up early and at the Acropolis at 8am (lucky we heeded the warnings and bought tickets yesterday as the queue to buy tickets was long).  The Acropolis and Parthernon are a wonder, the effort to engineer and build these structures 2400 years ago is oustounding, not to mention that some of the fortified walls date back thousands of years earlier.

Then on to the Acropolis Museum, no photos allowed.

Late afternoon siesta and back onto the evening streets for our last night in Athens.
