Sat 29th to Mon 31st July - Copenhagen

Day 19.5 - Friday.  Budapest to Copenhagen

Arrived in Copenhagen around 9pm, straight to our accommodation.  We had booked a quaint hotel along the Nyhavn canal with a corner apartment overlooking the restaurants, boats and canal.  Fantastic reviews of this hotel but it was only a 2.5 Star so a little apprehensive...  but the reviews were solid, it was lovely and having a corner unit overlooking the hustle and bustle was great.  We ended up having dinner from one of the canal outside restaurants at about 11pm (in fact we ate from a different waterfront canal restaurant each night).

View from our window when we arrived...

And after dark, which is around 10pm...

Day 20 - Saturday.  Copenhagen

Not a very nice day today, rain around.  So we opted to hop on the "hop-on hop-off" bus tours.  There are 3 different tours and for the one price you can do all of them.  We hopped off at the little Mermaid and the Tivoli Gardens, but then continued on to do all of the tours, completely seeing all the main attractions... at least from the comfort of a waterproof bus.

Back onto the bus after visiting the Tivoli Gardens (and amusement park) but in the rain not many photos.

Then back to our accomodation, we are staying in the Somandshjem Hotel (Hotel Bethel)

The weather fined up a little in the evening so we took a canal boat tour.

And after a surprisingly very full day even with the rain, a lovely dinner.

Day 21 - Sunday.  Copenhagen

No hurry this morning, we plan to hop onto the Metro to visit the Botanical Gardens, Rosenberg Castle and do some shopping, the weather will depict in which order.

The Gardens were nice but Rosenberg Castle was extremely good (and bad).  The castle and its insides including some furnishings and museum like pieces throughout was brilliant.  We saw the Denmark Crown Jewels.  The ticketing booth was absolutely woeful service, we waited about an hour to buy a ticket in a queue about 25 deep.  Surely it couldn't take 2-3 minutes to purchase tickets for each couple/group... oh yes it can!

After some shopping we headed back to the Little Mermaid.  As Tracey's mum grew up in Copenhagen, the little Mremaid is a symbol of her time here so is a very special place for us to revisit and spend some time with less crowds.

Day 22 - Monday.  Copenhagen to Santorini

Onto the train this morning to go visit the area where Tracey's mum grew up, Glostrup.  Visiting the church she was baptised in.

Then back to Copenhagen for an hour or so before hopping on to our flight to Santorini.
