Outback Trip 2018 – Canning Stock Route

Featuring:  Simpson Desert, Uluru, Gunbarrel Hwy, Canning Stock Route, Lawn Hill, Whitsunday’s and many iconic outback pubs in between.

Kate and Paul, Tracey and I, departing 16th July for a 10 week trip across our vast country.  The goal will be to drive the longest historic stock route in the world.  Of course in true Australian style it will take us 3 weeks to drive to the start of this track at Wiluna, WA.  Having to traverse the Simpson desert and stock up in Alice Springs on the way.

Although the CSR traverses desert country, this season we have current reports indicating we may not be able to travel between Wells 25 – 26 as they are still flooded from the heavy wet season in the area a few months ago.  With a 600km diversion required, we are hoping the water dissipates before we get there, although local reports suggest it will be flooded all season.

As I have done in the past the plan will be to document our travels with this blog, in the end I turn it into a fantastic hardcopy book that we keep for coffee table chats.

A couple of years in the planning, we hope we are well prepared.  Cars are stocked up, permits to traverse obtained, 4 nights in a 4.5 star apartment at the end of the CSR booked along with 3 nights on a well decked out Catamaran in the Whitsundays’ planned to refresh mid point and towards the end of our trip.

All that is left to do is get behind the wheel and set off!!
